Medicare Rebates

You may be eligible for a Medicare Rebate for counselling sessions if your GP refers you to our practice with a Mental Health Care Plan. If you are referred by a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician you may also be eligible to receive a Medicare Rebate.

The Medicare rebate is $92.90  per session. This amount increases significantly once you reach the threshold for the  Medicare Safety Net. When you spend certain amounts in gap and out-of-pocket costs, you’ll reach the thresholds. Once you’ve reached the threshold, you’ll get higher Medicare benefits for the remainder of the calendar year.

The Medicare rebate is not available for sessions with Provisionally Registered Psychologists. Our fee for sessions with our Provisionally Registered Psychologists is lower to reflect this.

If your GP determines that you are eligible for a Mental Health Plan, you can receive a Medicare Rebate for up to 10 psychology sessions per calendar year (1st January to 31st December). Your initial referral enables you to have 6 rebateable sessions. Your psychologist will then suggest you see the GP for a  re-referral and you can access an additional 4 sessions in the calendar year.  A brief progress report must be provided to your referring GP (by your psychologist) for you to be able to obtain additional sessions.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on your private health scheme, you may be eligible for a rebate under Private Health Insurance (which can't be used in addition to Medicare).  If you are using Private Health Insurance the rebate amount will depend on your particular fund.

Our Cancellation Policy

We request that you confirm or cancel your appointment as soon as you know that you will or will not be able to attend your session either by replying to a received SMS or phoning the practice on 1800 230 710, giving at least 48 hours’ notice. Whilst we understand life can be unpredictable, late cancellations and not showing up to your appointment means we are often unable to offer this appointment to another client who may be on a cancellation or waiting list for an appointment.

You will be charged the full fee for your session if you cancel with less than 48 hours' notice or don't show up for an appointment and it is due and payable immediately.

Once a time has been reserved in our system, it is reserved for you unless you notify us otherwise. Whilst every effort is made to remind you before an appointment if you do not receive a message or call from us to remind you, this does not constitute a reason for your non-attending an appointment.

We certainly understand that you may not be able to keep an appointment due to sudden illness or an unexpected personal emergency. If this does happen to you, please contact us as soon as possible to let us know. You may be asked to supply a Medical Certificate just like you would require for an employer before waiving any fee.
